What is
Dagorhir?So you have never heard of Dagorhir or you are wondering how I would explain this outdoor recreational sport. Yes Dagorhir is a sport. Not as popular as football, basketball, baseball or most other sport you might like. To compare Dagorhir to other sports is not as easy as it may seem. Dagorhir is totally different than any sport I have ever participated in. Dagorhir is a medieval reenactment battle game. Much to the similarity of LARPs (Live Action Role Playing Games). Though unlike most LARPs I have seen, Dagorhir is a full contact battle.
In Dagorhir it is as much a battle of mind, cunning, stealth, and tactics as strength. Our weapons have varying uses and sizes. Our game is based off any thing before 900A.D. Dagorhir has varying personas as well there are groups based after the Romans, the Teutonic Knights, Bulgarian swordsmen, English Knights, and of course total Chaos, as well as anything else any member of Dagorhir has conjured up in their mind. Each group is slightly different.
In Dagorhir you are not required to wear armor. We fight with padded weapons. Padding the weapons offers a greater variety in people who can participate in the battle. Yet does require stricter rules for safety purposes. The rules for Dagorhir are fairly simple and can be learned in a short time normally all the major rules after one or two battles will be reasonably understood.
Dagorhir is a sport that transports a person back or into a world of the past. One maybe be whatever s/he wants to be. You may chose to be a vagabond or a warrior. The right to choose is yours depending on the group. Most groups do offer the versatility to choose your character.
Other groups relatively close to Dagorhir in concept are the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism), Battlegard, Amtgard, and Darkon. There may be other groups around you. But these are the most prominent ones I know of. If you are interested in this sort of sport and you can not find a Dagorhir group near you. Check on of these groups they may have a groups near you.
